Welcome to the Klinik Bad Windsheim

Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your kind interest which you show for our hospital. The following information should give you an idea about the services we would like to offer you and to answer some questions you might have about us.

The Klinik Bad Windsheim is a normal municipal hospital treating all arising health problems in the community. It is part of the clinical corporation in our county Neustadt/Aisch – Bad Windsheim. Beside our clinic there are the hospitals of Neustadt/Aisch and Uffenheim. Following departments exist in our house:

  •  Internal Medicine
  •  Orthopaedic Surgery
  •  General Surgery
  •  Anestesiology
  •  Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  •  ENT

The clinic consists of 151 beds, from which 58 belong to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. For more than 30 years the hospital focuses mainly on hip and knee replacement surgery. In the meantime more than 12000 prostheses have been implanted. The department gains more and more popularity, which can be seen in the annual operation numbers. In the last year 314 total hip replacement and 266 total knee replacement were performed.

Hip and knee replacements are standardized, well established surgical procedures with excellent prospects of success. They are not so highly demanding operations that they could only be done in university clinics. These clinics perform much more complex procedures like partial replacement of the pelvis or complex spine reconstructions for example. Therefore the operation numbers of Bad Windsheim exceed those of most German university hospitals.

International comparison shows that the average duration of the hospital stay for knee and hip replacement is about 6 to 7 days. According to our experience this period is too short especially for the elderly patients (and most of the involved patients are of senior age) to be discharged to their homes. In the Klinik Bad Windsheim the average stay lasts 12 to 14 days, nearly double the length, compared with international standards. After the hospital stay with us the patient can decide whether he or she will continue the treatment at a special rehabilitation clinic as an in- or out patient. Cooperation contracts and follow-up care have been established with such a clinic in the close vicinity of our hospital.
